The Story Behind our Downhill Sleds
Gretchen and Michael were childhood sledding enthusiasts, both having a healthy appreciation for the hexagonal, frozen crystals which fall during colder times of the year. As adults we purchased some acreage that had a nice hillside, and were hoping to recapture our snowborne thrills of the past. Unfortunately, at that time the vast majority of downhill snow sleds on the market were basically for kids, and could not handle adult sizes and weights. We endeavored to build downhill snow sleds that would accommodate the thrill seeking teens and adults who were too large for what was available. As we designed and tested our sledding ideas, over time we found that there were others who had the same idea of designing and building sleds for use by adult-sized individuals. As a result, there are a good crop of such sleds to choose from now, and we proudly offer a portal to them at Snowborne.com. The Snowborne Labs' Experimental Downhill Sleds (S.L.E.D.S) are however, still undergoing test & evaluation. We are looking forward to testing and tweaking our latest prototypes, as well as the other adult-sized sleds on the market this winter at our sled test facility in British Columbia.
